You Inspire Me

I wrote and recorded this ode to friendship decades ago.  I've changed a few of the words since then and they appear below.  In the original, I make mention of three of my biggest inspirations as a youth: Paul McCartney, Dale Carnegie and DJ Ron Gregory.  I chose more appropriate names for the revised lyrics.
Boy, do I sound young.

There are so many shades of grey
and so many things to say
as we work, and we play
Yet there are people who just get by
who don't even wonder why
as they laugh, and they cry

But you and I are a different situation
You and I have a cause for celebration
We're finding the way to a better day, 'cause you see:

You inspire me
You make me feel like I'm Tchaikovsky
You make me want to write a symphony
to say our way is the best way
Ain't no shades of grey
You inspire me

Everyone's looking for the light
and everyone says they're right
So they fuss, and they fight
And there are people who say to me
There are things that they have to see
to believe what can be

But you and me are a different situation
With you and me there is never complication
We're finding the light is the dark of night 'cause you see:

You inspire me
You make me feel like Dale Carnegie
You make me want to teach the world to see
that our light is the best light
There's no fuss and fight
You inspire me

I know there may come a day
when you'll have to go away
and I'll miss you more than I can ever say
But it's true, though I will be blue
There is someone who
needs to be inspired the way that you inspire me

You make me feel like I'm DaVinci
Paint you a masterpiece so they can see
that our love is the best love
It's from God above
'Cause you inspire me.
